John McLendon Minority Athletics Administrators Awards Luncheon

The Association The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) is proud to present the inaugural induction of the Legends Class of Minority Athletics Administrators.

Saturday, December 18, 2007 at 12 noon
CSU Wolstein Center

In addition, a fundraising basketball game between Cleveland State University and The Ohio State University will take place at 7:00 PM at Quicken Loans Arena.

The 2007 Legends Class consists of six African-American administrators who have left their mark in athletics history. These honorees were the FIRST African-Americans to hold the following positions:

Wayne Embry, NBA General Manager
Dr. James Frank, NCAA President
Ozzie Newsome, NFL General Manager
Gene Smith, NACDA President
Dr. LeRoy Walker, NAIA and USOC President
Bill White, MLB National League President

In 1998, the John McLendon Minority Scholarship program was established in honor of the late John McLendon, a true pioneer in the field of athletics with a long list of remarkable achievements. McLendon was a mainstay in the Cleveland area since the early 1960’s when he came to the city to be head coach of the Cleveland Pipers. In 1966, McLendon became the first African-American coach hired by a predominately white institution, Cleveland State University.

For tickets and additional information, contact the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission at 216-621-0600 or NACDA at 440-892-4000.
